About the Jets: This is the third of six meetings between the two clubs, with the Jets having won the first two: 5-3 on Oct. 22 in Winnipeg and 3-1 on Nov. 25 in Raleigh. Carolina went 5-0-1 against the Atlanta Thrashers in 2010-11… Centre Bryan Little has 12 points (6G, 6A) in his last 10 games and is working on a four-game point streak (2G, 4A)… Winnipeg is 12-11-4 and this franchise hasn’t been two games above .500 since last Feburary (25-23-10)… During the Jets’ three-game winning streak, goaltender Ondrej Pavelec posted a shutout and a save percentage of .965… Evander Kane’s 14 goals is three off the NHL lead shared by Milan Michalek (Ottawa), Jonathan Toews (Chicago) and Phil Kessel (Toronto), all of whom had 17 heading into Thursday’s action.

About the Hurricanes: Carolina is coming off a 5-3 victory over Edmonton on Wednesday, their first under new head coach Kirk Muller… The Canes are just 1-5-1 this season against Southeast Division opponents… Carolina leads the NHL with six short-handed goals; the team had seven all of last year… Jeff Skinner leads Carolina in scoring (12G, 12A)… Goaltender Mike Murphy made his NHL debut in Calgary this week and became the first netminder in league history to get his first loss before allowing his first goal (from Elias Sports Bureau). Murphy stopped both shots he faced after relieving Cam Ward in the third period, but took the loss for Carolina, because an empty-net goal scored while he was the goaltender of record proved to be the winner.
