About the Jets: Playing their third game of a four-game trip tonight. It winds up in Boston Tuesday… First two outings of January have been terrible, giving up 11 goals in two games. That’s the worst defensive back-to-back games for the team all season… Winnipeg remains at 43 points (19-16-5) and outside the playoff picture in the NHL’s Eastern Conference… Thursday’s shutout in Toronto was the fourth time this season the Jets have been blanked and the 13th time this season the team has scored one goal or less in a game… LW Evander Kane still leads the team in scoring with 18 goals and 30 points… RW Blake Wheeler’s six-game points streak came to a halt on Thursday.
About the Sabres: Lost 4-2 Friday night in Raleigh; are 18-18-4 and three points behind the Jets entering the game… Buffalo has not met the expectations of many, including their home fans. The Sabres are 10-9-4 on home ice so far…. Buffalo’s top goalie so far has not been Ryan Miller, which is among the issues. Jhonas Enroth, in his second NHL season, has won eight games and has a save percentage of .921… Sabres’ special teams are both in the NHL’s upper half, the power play at No. 13 and the penalty kill at No. 9… Since a 10-5-0 start to Nov. 11, Buffalo has not won two games in a row… D Tyler Myers has missed 19 games with a wrist injury but is said to be close to returning.
