Big picture
The victory Thursday night eases some pressure of standings urgency, making the picture a little better than it was a day ago. The Jets moved to 49 points, still in 10th place in the Eastern Conference but now within three points of both a playoff spot and the Southeast Division lead shared by Washington and Florida. Toronto remains ninth with 51 points and now the Jets are six up on the slumping Sabres.
Little picture
Winnipeg scored its victory with the power play. it scored two advantage goals after Buffalo had tied the game early in the second period. One was a point shot from Toby Enstrom and the third-period goal that allowed some breathing room at 3-1 was from Mike Stapleton in a close-in play at the crease.The loss was Buffalo’s 11th straight on the road.
Game-changer
The Jets power play got full marks Thursday for not giving up. When the referees ruled no-goal on a tight play earlier in the advantage, saying the Jets interfered with goalie Ryan Miller, the unit persisted and scored 59 seconds later to re-establish the lead. A key point in the game.
