10 FUTURE JETS?

An update on some of the Jets prospects/draft picks and their 2011-12 season (in no particular order):

Mark Scheifele
Mark Scheifele

Paul Postma, D, St. John’s (AHL): Age: 23: Named the IceCaps MVP after registering 13 goals and 31 assists in 55 games. Offensively gifted, management still wants him to hone his defensive game — he was a -12 in St. John’s this season.

Mark Scheifele, C, Barrie (OHL): Age: 19: So much expected of the Jets’ first pick and, despite those lofty standards, consider this: Scheifele has played in 113 OHL games over the last two years and has 138 points (45G, 93A). He has 10 points in nine playoff games as Barrie leads Ottawa 2-1 heading into Game 4 Thursday.

Ivan Telegin, LW/C, Barrie (OHL): Age: 20: Gifted skater has 12 points in nine playoff games; had 35 goals in 46 games with the Colts in the regular season. Speed, speed and more speed.

Carl Klingberg, LW/RW, St. John’s (AHL): Age: 21: Jets brass like his upside. Finished with 15 goals and 22 assists in 63 games on The Rock.

Spencer Machacek, RW, Winnipeg/St. John’s (NHL/AHL): Age: 23: His spring call-up revealed a lot about his game — spirited, energy guy who is defensively responsible. Led the IceCaps in scoring.

Patrice Cormier, LW/C, Winnipeg/St. John’s (NHL/AHL): Age: 21: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff wants to get bigger and his answer may be with Cormier. He’s 6-2, 210, tough to move off the puck and adept in the faceoff circle.

Zach Redmond, D, St. John’s (AHL): Age: 23: Former college star at Ferris State adapted well to pro game. Played in AHL all-star tilt and is an intelligent D-man.

Eddie Pasquale, G, St. John’s (AHL): Age: 21: Named the IceCaps’ top rookie and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team with a 21-11-1 record, 2.39 GAA and .912 save percentage.

Will O’Neill, D, Maine/St. John’s (NCAA/AHL): Joined the IceCaps after a solid career in Maine, where he was a co-captain. Was tied for sixth in scoring among NCAA defencemen and has a goal and two assists in his first seven games with St. John’s.

Zach Yuen, D, Tri-City (WHL): Age: 19: His Tri-City Americans are up 2-1 over Spokane in the WHL’s Western Conference semifinal. Solid regular season with 12 goals and tied for the league-lead with a +45 plus/minus rating.
