★ Braden Holtby, goalie, Washington: He wasn’t particularly busy through the first two periods, but the Jets did generate some quality chances in the third and he slammed the door shut by kicking out 19 shots.

★★ Alex Ovechkin, forward, Washington: Looked like the Ovie of old; finished with a goal and two assists and threw two spine-rattling hits in the second, the second of which took Mark Stuart out of the game.

Phil Hossack / Winnipeg Free Press
Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane loses the puck in his skates as Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby sprawls out to cover the net during the first-period.

★★★ Troy Brouwer, forward, Washington: Lots to like about the vet’s game. Scored the first goal of the game, his 11th, and was perfect in the faceoff circle.
