HE’LL TAKE IT:
Jets coach Claude Noel wasn’t about to nit pick the victory, but he did mention there are things to work on. He was more interested in talking about the team’s comeback from down 4-2 mid-way through the game.
“We kept plowing away,” Noel said. “We did a really good job of staying with it. i think our guys were a little demoralized (at 4-2). We had a lot of hockey to play. I think the guys thought being down 4-2 would be really tough and that’s why the (first) goal by Frolik, to me, was a really big play.
The coach was also thrilled with his rookies on Tuesday, especially Trouba.
“I thought Trouba was outstanding,” Noel said. “For a young player, his first NHL game, he was really solid.”
1 GAME, 1 GOAL:
Trouba’s goal in his first NHL game had him grinning from ear to ear after it was over.
“It was a pretty cool experience,” he said of his game-tying marker with less than 10 minutes to play. “I just shot it and I was turning to the bench to change.
“I think it was a knuckle-puck.”
He said more than 25 minutes of icetime was no big deal.
“From the start of the pre-season I was playing quite a bit so it was something I was used to,” the 19-year-old said. “I’m lucky they’ve given me the opportunity and I have to keep earning trust out there.”
RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME:
Frolik’s game-winner came from a perfect “blind” pass from teammate Eric Tangradi in the slot.
“I kind of yelled. I was open,” Frolik reported. “He said he heard me and he just put it there. It was a great play by him. Nice pass, I have the open net. I haven’t had that many easy goals like that it my past.”
