With Clitsome back in action, Pardy gets ticket to The Rock

AFTER missing the first two games, defenceman Grant Clitsome was activated by the Jets on Sunday.

Clitsome missed some time in the final week of training camp with an undisclosed injury and the day before the regular season began, the team placed him on the injured reserve list retroactive to the final week of camp.

He sat out in Edmonton and again Friday night when the L.A. Kings were here, but did get into practice at the MTS Centre Saturday.

With Clitsome’s return to health, the Jets assigned defenceman Adam Pardy to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps to comply with the maximum 23-man roster for the regular season.

 

DUCKS coach Bruce Boudreau has been around the block a time or two, including a lengthy playing career.

So, as a talkative sort — his nickname is Gabby, after all — he’s been in his share of rhubarbs with opponents.

Sunday, Boudreau was asked for his opinion on coaches having in-game debates through the glass that separates benches.

Already there have been two heated exchanges this season.

“I don’t want to touch that,” Boudreau said. “I went through that before.”

He paused, then gave a question back to the two dozen reporters surrounding him near the Ducks dressing room.

“Who was it though?”

Told Vancouver’s John Tortorella was launching nouns and verbs at the Edmonton bench on Saturday, with some return fire in his direction, Boudreau said with a wide smile, “Oh, they went at it? Oh.”

He declined any further comment on the matter but his facial expressions said volumes.

 

WHEN Teemu Selanne shows up on any given night, it means one of the NHL’s most prolific scorers is in the building.

In Sunday’s case, it was quite a list of Finnish-born stars.

On the MTS Centre ice were three of the top four Finnish NHL scorers of all time.

Selanne tops the list with 1,430 points entering Sunday’s game. Jari Kurri follows at 1,398.

Selanne’s teammate Saku Koivu is next with 804 points and in fourth place is Jets’ centre Olli Jokinen at 699.

Jokinen scored his 300th career goal on Friday and is one assist away from 400 in his career.

 

THE anticipation of Sunday’s second return for Selanne caused a lot of questions in the Jets’ quarters over the weekend.

Most spoke of enjoying the spectacle but Winnipeg defenceman Zach Bogosian, who played in the first return nearly two years ago, said there’s so much going on during the game once the puck goes down, he’s got little time for that kind of hype

“I’m speaking for myself — I’m not really paying attention,” Bogosian said. “Some guys might but I’m just trying to focus on the game. There’s a lot going on down there at ice level and I have a few more, bigger things to worry about than fans screaming.

“But it’s cool, a fun atmosphere to play in when it’s like that in the building.”
