үӯ ABOUT THE AVS
Entered Friday’s home game against Carolina as one of the NHL’s elite squads after an 8-1-0 start to the season, including a 1-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday in which J.S. Giguere made 34 saves for the shutout and the Avs’ penalty kill unit was a perfect seven for seven.

The Avs will be without forward Cody McLeod, who was suspended five games Monday for an illegal hit Oct. 17 on Detroit Red Wings defenceman Niklas Kronwall.
Colorado was a perfect 6-0 when scoring first, heading into Friday’s game against the Canes.
With their 8-1-0 October to date the Avs have equaled their best start through nine games in franchise history. The Nordiques also went 8-1-0 in their first nine games of ’94-95, while the Avalanche recorded 16 points (7-0-2) through their first nine in 2000-01.
New coach Patrick Roy led the Avalanche to a 6-0-0 start in his first six games behind the bench, tying the NHL record for consecutive wins by ahead coach to begin his career. He equaled the mark set by Mario Tremblay, who won his first six games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1995-96.
