ABOUT THE ISLES
- Come into tonight’s game having lost three straight. The Islanders have fallen to eighth and last place in the Metropolitan Division, their 8-13-3 record good for 19 points. That’s tied for 14th in the conference.
- The Islanders are 3-3-1 against the Western Conference this season; are just 2-8-1 within their own division.
- Captain John Tavares leads the team in scoring with 27 points in 24 games. That’s tied for fourth spot in the overall NHL scoring race.
- Since his trade to the Islanders from Buffalo, winger Tomas Vanek has three goals, six points and is plus-four in the six games he’s played. Vanek returned from injury last Friday in Pittsburgh and scored twice.
- Defencemen Andrew MacDonald and Travis Hamonic are the Islanders’ ice time leaders this season, each averaging more than 25 minutes per game.
- Goalie Evgeni Nabokov is out with a groin injury, has been placed on the IR and didn’t practise on Tuesday.
