PENALTY SHOT:

Jim Slater was stopped by Semyon Varlamov on a first-period penalty shot after the Avs’ Tyson Barrie apparently got his stick up on the Jet centre’s hands. Slater is now 0-3 in his career on penalty shots, his last two against Varlamov.

The last Jet to score on a penalty shot was Evander Kane on Oct. 8, 2010 against Michael Neuvirth of the Washington Capitals. Since then, the Jets have been stopped on their last eight attempts.

NUMBERS GAME:

11-6-2: The Jets’ record since Paul Maurice was named head coach.

38: One-goal games the Jets have played in this year, third-most in the NHL.

4: Consecutive games in which the Jets, the NHL’s worst faceoff team, have won the battle in the circle. Interestingly, the Jets are 0-3-1 in those games.

1: Points by Avs’ forward Matt Duchene Monday night, extending his point streak to eight games (4G, 9A).

1: Number of NHL teams this season — the Avs being the only one — to score at least one goal in every game they’ve played.

SICK BAY REPORT:

Jets’ centre John Albert, dressing for his first game since being recalled last week, left early in the second with what was called an “upper-body injury.” The Avs lost forward P.A. Parenteau after he injured his knee on a first-period hit by Mark Stuart.
