MAURICE IN DEMAND:

Jets boss Paul Maurice may be considered for a coaching role with Canada’s entry at this year’s world championship in Belarus May 9-25, according to a source from Hockey Canada.

If the Phoenix Coyotes don’t qualify for the playoffs, Dave Tippett would be the head coach with Maurice serving as an assistant. But if the Coyotes are in, Maurice could potentially take on the head coaching chores for Canada. New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer is also in the mix.

NUMBERS GAME:

— The Bruins are now 40-6-2 when scoring first.

— Boston is 7-1-6 vs. the Central Division.

— Bruins centre Patric Bergeron did not dress, nor did captain Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly as Boston attempts to save some wear and tear on its troops before the start of the playoffs. By not dressing, Bergeron had a 12-game point streak (10G, 6A) snapped.

FYI:

Devin Setoguchi did not dress for Thursday’s game after being giving a leave of absence by the team for a private matter.
