үӯ ABOUT THE SABRES
Buffalo is on a three-game winning streak heading into tonight’s game against the Jets, the most-recent a 2-1 victory in Washington on Saturday. The Sabres have 12 goals over that three-game run, representing one-third of their total offence this season.
Even with that modest streak, the Sabres are still just 6-13-2 and, with 14 points, are at the bottom of the NHL standings.
Alternate captain Josh Gorges has been out since Nov. 11 with a lower-body injury, but returned to practice on Tuesday. He is expected to be back in the lineup on the weekend when the Sabres play back-to-back games against his old club, the Montreal Canadiens.
At practice in Buffalo Tuesday, the Sabres had Patrick Kaleta at centre between Marcus Foligno and Chris Stewart while Cody McCormick works through concussion symptoms. The Sabres’ top line has Zemgus Girgensons centring Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis. Ennis leads the Sabres in scoring with six goals and seven assists.
Sabres netminders Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth have a combined goals-against average of 3.24, ranking them 27th in the NHL.
Buffalo is surrendering a whopping 36.9 shots per game, most in the NHL. By comparison, Minnesota is first in that department at 25.
The Sabres have the NHL’s worst power play, having scored just four times on 60 chances (6.7 per cent).
