D Johnny Boychuk supplied the game-saving overtime goal for the Islanders Monday night at home against Washington after they blew a 3-0 lead for the second consecutive game. Prevously, the Islanders had given away a 3-0 third-period lead and lost in a shootout to Buffalo.

New York has gone 24-11-1 to this point of the season, including an excellent 6-1 shootout record.

Islanders scoring co-leader C John Tavares has a four-game points streak going, now 3-2-5 in that time. He has 15 goals and 32 points on the year.

WIth a mark of 16-2-1 this season in one-goal games, the Islanders are serious contenders in the Eastern Conference, tied with Pittsburgh on top of the Metropolitan Division heading into Tuesday’s action. New York is 7-6 this season against the Western Conference, including a 4-3 home loss to the Jets Oct. 28.

Today’s game marks the start of a four-game Western Canada road trip that also goes to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. It’s also the start of a seven-game stretch away from home, though the other destinations after the western games are all within the neighbourhood in New Jersey, New York and Columbus.
