ABOUT THE PANTHERS

The Panthers have been off since Saturday, when they defeated the N.Y. Islanders in a shootout, 4-3. The Panthers led that game three different times during regulation.

Dan Ellis played goal in that contest, filling in for the banged-up Panthers Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya, both hurt against Toronto on March 3. Ellis is the likely starter again tonight, as Luongo and former Jet Montoya remain sidelined. Ellis was perfect (three for three) against the Islanders in that shootout.

Florida, at 72 points, is still pushing to be in the Eastern Conference playoffs, but the line has moved on it since the last game played. The team is now six points back of the last wild-card spot in the east, occupied by Boston.

The Panthers have only three wins (two in regulation) in the last nine games, 3-4-2) and are 1-7-5 against the Central Division this season.

C Nick Bjugstad clicked for his team-leading 23rd goal of the season in the last victory. It was just his second goal in the last 10 games. Bjugstad also leads the Panthers in overall scoring, with 40 points.
