ABOUT THE LEAFS

After a sad home loss Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which extended a winless skid to 0-4-1, the Leafs rallied to beat the Dallas Stars at home Monday. Toronto has started the season 2-7-2 under new coach Mike Babcock. Toronto’s only other win was against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With a three-point night Monday, defenceman Morgan Reilly became the Leafs’ scoring leader with three goals and eight points.

Goalie James Reimer, a Morweena, Man., product, has both of Toronto’s wins this season (2-1-0). Monday, he stopped 43 shots from the Stars to earn the victory.

Toronto’s power play was league-worst going into Monday’s game but clicked twice in five attempts to bring its percentage up to 12.5 and all the way up to 24th in the NHL. The Leafs will be up against the Jets’ ninth-ranked penalty-killing units tonight (84.8 per cent).

The Leafs have just four players on their current roster who are Toronto draft picks. (Today, the Jets have 12 of their own draft picks playing). Toronto has 11 players via trade and nine via free agency.

Since Toronto fired head coach Randy Carlyle in January, its record is 11-35-7.
