ABOUT THE HURRICANES
Carolina was 5-6-4 and in seventh spot in the Metropolitan Division prior to a Friday night clash with the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Jeff Skinner has six goals and 13 points in 14 games to lead the club. He’s tied with Victor Rask for the team lead in goals.
Goaltender Cam Ward has four wins in 11 starts for Carolina, with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .908 saves percentage. His backup is Eddie Lack, who guarded the Manitoba Moose net back in 2010-11 when the club was the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.
The Hurricanes are without 30-year-old forward Bryan Bickell, who was diagnosed earlier this month with multiple sclerosis. He has one goal in seven games with the club this season. He is out indefinitely.
Carolina has the lowest attendance in the league this year. The club averages just 11,189 fans a game at PNC Arena. No other team NHL draws fewer than 12,000 fans.
