ABOUT THE LEAFS
Toronto is enjoying a terrific season and was 46-24-7 prior the club’s tilt with the host New York Islanders on Friday night, good for third in the Atlantic Division. The Leafs were 7-3-0 in their last 10 before their battle with C John Tavares and the Islanders.
C Mitch Marner went into Brooklyn, N.Y., and has played all 77 games and led the offensive charge with 21 goals and 46 assists. C William Nylander (17G, 38A) is being chased by C Auston Matthews (30G, 24A) for second on the club’s scoring list, although Matthews, the 2016 No.1 draft choice, has played 20 fewer games.

Toronto has a trio of 30-goal scorers — Matthews, LW James van Riemsdyk (35) and C Nazem Kadri (30), while 38-year-old C Patrick Marleau has 25 and will play the 1,572th game of his tremendous NHL career. The Leafs had scored the third-most goals in the NHL (254) and had the third-best power-play effectiveness (23.5%).
G Frederik Andersen has been one of the league’s busiest netminder. He had 63 starts prior to the Easter weekend and was 36-20-6, with five shutouts, a 2.81 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.
