ABOUT THE PREDATORS
A three-goal lead after 20 minutes Tuesday was exactly the kind of start the Predators were looking for in Game 3 to hush the crowd at Bell MTS Place. But things took a dramatic turn in the middle frame as the Jets scored four goals to take the lead and eventually post a 7-4 triumph.
C Mike Fisher opened the scoring with his first goal of the playoffs just 4:53 into the game, talented agitator D P.K. Subban ripped his second of the postseason about five minutes later and LW Austin Watson supplied his fifth late in the period. D Mattias Ekholm set up the tallies by Fisher and Watson.
LW Filip Forsberg evened the game 4-4 with his fifth, a power-play goal, at 7:40 of the third period. But Winnipeg struck for three straight after that.
Nashville was 2-for-5 with the man advantage Tuesday and has scored three power-play tallies in 12 chances in the second-round series with Winnipeg. The Preds’ penalty killers have snuffed out nine of 11 man-advantage chances for the Jets.
LW Viktor Arvidsson, C Ryan Johansen and D Roman Josi were -3 on the night, while Subban and D Ryan Ellis were -2.
Beyond his reckless stick swing on Jets C Adam Lowry, there were just a few highlight-worthy saves by G Pekka Rinne, who surrendered five goals on 43 shots. He thwarted LW Kyle Connor on a clear-cut breakaway and turned aside several big blasts from RW Patrik Laine. In nine games during the ‘17-18 playoffs, the 35-year-old Vezina Trophy finalist has a 5-4 record with a 3.08 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.
