Hey there, time traveller!

THE Winnipeg Jets are casting a wide net in an attempt to bolster their organizational depth.
Russian forward Andrei Chibisov signed a one-year, two-way contract Saturday after spending the past five seasons playing in the Kontinental Hockey League. The 26-year-old shoots left but can play either side of the ice and brings some size — the Jets list him at 6-3 and 198 pounds, while Elite Prospects claims he is 6-4 and 227 pounds.
He hasn’t put up a ton of offence overseas, with 26 goals and 40 assists in 220 career KHL games with three different teams. He’s also taken 168 penalty minutes, showing he’s not afraid to mix it up. He had seven goals and 13 helpers in 50 games last season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. His best season came a year earlier, when he had nine goals and seven assists in 31 games.

Chibisov’s contract carries a US$792,500 cap hit if he’s playing in the NHL with the Jets, which could grow to US$925,000 if he hits certain performance bonuses. Otherwise, he would make US$70,000 if he’s down with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, according to the CapFriendly website.
Chibisov, who was born in Prokopyevsk, is expected to take part in the team’s development camp at the end of June, following the NHL draft in Vancouver.
It’s no secret the Jets are facing some tough decisions this summer, with plenty of restricted and unrestricted free agents and not a ton of salary-cap space to play with once the big-ticket deals get done with Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor.
That means trying to hunt for potential bargains, and looking overseas has become an increasingly popular route for many organizations.
A recent scouting report on HFBoards, which had Chibisov listed as the No. 12 best KHL free-agent to potentially sign an NHL deal, had this to say about him: “Chibisov is a total wildcard: at his best he can show quite a combination of skating, size and skills. The issue is that there are way too many up-and-downs in his game, which makes it harder to predict what he potentially could do at the NHL level.”
