Bring on the rivalries.

That’s the running theme for the upcoming 20th-anniversary season of the Manitoba Moose, where division matchups will be all the rage. The top affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets will play 60 of their 76 games within the Central Division, according to the American Hockey League 2019-20 schedule released Wednesday.

That’s a big jump from 48 divisional games last season and means a regular serving of the Chicago Wolves (12 games), plus eight games each against the Grand Rapids Griffins, Iowa Wild, Milwaukee Admirals, Rockford IceHogs, San Antonio Rampage and Texas Stars.

The rest of the schedule will include a dozen all-Canadian matchups, with four games each against the Toronto Marlies, Belleville Senators and Laval Rocket, plus four games against the Colorado Eagles.

Add it all up and the Moose will only see 11 opponents all season. Familiarity may indeed breed contempt in this case.

To commemorate their 20th season in Winnipeg, the Moose will wear a special patch on their jerseys. There are also a number of merchandise, marketing and promotional events to be unveiled later this summer.

Manitoba begins the new campaign in Texas with games against the Rampage and Stars on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, respectively. They’ll return to Winnipeg for the home-opening series against the Marlies on Oct. 11 and Oct. 12.

The Moose will play 14 weekend afternoon games at Bell MTS Place, plus host the annual New Year’s Eve game beginning at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 when the IceHogs are in town. A total of 28 home games are either on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Another highlight will be the official “20th Season Game” against the Wolves on Feb. 7, with several Moose alumni in attendance for a special celebration. The first 3,000 fans in the rink will also receive a mini replica banner.

The final regular-season home game goes April 5 against the Griffins, with the Moose finishing up the schedule April 11 in Chicago.
