Centre Jack Finley fired his second career hat trick to lead the Winnipeg Ice to a 6-2 triumph over the Prince Albert Raiders in WHL action at Wayne Fleming Arena Saturday night.
Finley, who has 24 goals on the season, potted his first hat trick earlier this season as a member of the Spokane Chiefs before being traded to the Ice.
The Ice, which hasn’t posted a regulation loss in 14 games, improved to 46-9-3-2 overall. Nolan Orzeck, with his seventh, Matt Savoie, with his 29th, and Evan Friesen, with his third, also scored for the hosts.
The victory pushed Winnipeg into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Ice has one game in hand on the Oil Kings, who did not play Saturday.
Vladislav Shilo put Prince Albert up 1-0 with his seventh 21 seconds into the first period. Nolan Allan scored his sixth of the season during a 5-on-3 power play in the third period.
Winnipeg goaltender Daniel Hauser had a quiet night, stopping 14 shots to win his 11th consecutive start. Max Hildebrand made 31 saves for the Raiders, who are ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 24-31-4-1 record.
Winnipeg went 3-for-5 on the power play. Prince Albert scored once in four chances.
The teams meet again Sunday afternoon at Wayne Fleming Arena. Game time is 5 p.m.
THREE STARS: 1. Jack Finley, Winnipeg (three goals); 2. Owen Pederson, Winnipeg (three assists); 3. Cole Muir, Winnipeg (one assist).
