DEFENCEMAN Carson Lambos was in the midst of an all-star calibre season when he was injured during a WHL game in Swift Current Friday night.

His return to the Winnipeg Ice lineup remains uncertain and he won’t be available for home games Wednesday (Swift Current), Saturday (Medicine Hat) and Sunday (Prince Albert) at Wayne Fleming Arena.

The 18-year-old suffered an upper-body injury Friday and missed the third period of Winnipeg’s 4-3 win over the Broncos and he subsequently missed all of the road matchup against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday.

Winnipeg won that game 4-2 and has won 19 of its first 20 regular-season games.

Lambos, chosen in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild, has five goals and 18 points in 19 games.

His point total is good for second among WHL blue-liners, five back of teammate Ben Zloty.

Lambos was not on the ice for a Monday morning practice.

Head coach James Patrick was asked if Lambos’ injury status could jeopardize his chances of being invited to the national junior team training camp next month in preparation for the world championship to be held in Edmonton and Red Deer. The 6-1, 200-pounder would be close to a lock to make that team.

“No, he’s just week-to-week,” said Patrick.

Four other Winnipeg players are currently sidelined due to injury, including: forward Brayden Edwards (lower body, week-to-week), left-winger Owen Pederson (upper body, week-to-week); forward Evan Friesen (upper body, week-to-week); and defenceman Martin Bohm (upper body, indefinite).
