Hey there, time traveller!

It wasn’t the defensive help that many were expecting but the WHL’s Winnipeg Ice took a big swing on the trade market Monday.
The Ice announced the acquisition of 19-year-old forward Jack Finley and a seventh-round pick in the 2024 WHL Draft from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for winger Chase Bertholet, 18, centre James Form, 19, and a second-round pick in ’24.
Finley, who was the captain of the Chiefs this season, has eight goals, 16 points and 40 penalty minutes in 21 games this season. He was chosen in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed a three-year entry-level deal with the club last year.
The 6-6, 223-pounder is American-born but hails from Kelowa, B.C. He is one of 21 forwards invited Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp later this week. It is unknown if he will be in Winnipeg’s lineup for Wednesday’s home game with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Finley, the son of former NHLer and current Winnipeg Jets scout Jeff Finley, represented Canada at the Under-17 World Hockey Championship in 2019.
In 152 regular-season games over the past four seasons, Finley has 36 goals, 93 points and 124 penalty minutes.
