A trio of talented 2007-born local players were among the 22 first-round selections during the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft Thursday .

As expected, 5-9, 150-pound centre Cole Temple of the Brandon U15 AAA Wheat Kings was the first Manitoban to be chosen when he was selected fifth overall by the Regina Pats.

Temple, the son of former Wheat Kings forward Jeff Temple, led the provincial AAA U15 league with 58 goals and 108 points in 28 regular-season games.

Temple followed that up with 15 goals and 30 points in 11 playoff games.

One selection later, the Swift Current Broncos snapped up the top defensive prospect from Manitoba when they took Rink Hockey Academy U15 Prep product Peyton Kettles.

He is the son of former WHL goaltender Kyle Kettles.

The 6-2 1/2, 156-pounder scored nine goals and 35 points in 30 games during the Canadian Sport School Hockey League season.

Meanwhile, Kettles’ teammate, Graham Jones, went 18th overall to the Portland Winterhawks.

Jones, a 5-7, 126-pound forward, finished third in league scoring with 33 goals and 81 points in 30 games.

The Winnipeg Ice, having traded away its first-, second- and third-round choices, made it’s first selection in the fourth round, taking forward Ashton Brown 88th overall from Sherwood Park, Alta.

Winnipeg’s subsequent picks included: forward Daniel Morozov of Port Coquitlam, B.C. (fifth round, 92nd overall); defenceman Owen Brees of Lethbridge, Alta. (fifth round, 110th overall; forward Jace Egland of Eastend, Sask. (sixth round, 132nd overall); forward Christian Stephanson of Calgary (seventh round, 154th overall); Winnipegger Ayden Collins, a defenceman with the Rink Hockey Academy U15 Prep (eighth round, 165th overall); forward Hudson Landmark of Sherwood Park, Alta. (eighth round, 176th overall); right-winger Jaden Kokosha from Ardrossan, Alta. (ninth round, 198th overall); forward Cruz Klapak of Pilot Butte, Sask. (10th round, 220th overall); centre Logan Murray of Kimberley, B.C. (11th round, 242nd overall); goaltender Justin Perreault of Winnipeg Bruins Gold U15 AAA (12th round, 286th overall); and goaltender Griffin Wright of Edmonton (13th round, 286th overall).
