DANNY WARREN a.k.a. ‘Hotshot’ Danny Duggan, 26

Professional wrestler and general manager of Winnipeg-based Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) wrestling company

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: When Warren began operating his wrestling company Canadian Wrestling’s Elite, there were eight others operating in Manitoba. Now, CWE is one of just two remaining (PCW is the other). CWE has its own weekly television show, CWE-TV, shown on MTS and Bell ExpressVu). His first wrestling match was in 2003 at age 15, and Warren was captivated by the business. He worked his way up to being an active professional wrestler while working as a salesman at a local car dealership between road trips. He’ll be the main event against arch rival ‘The Mecca’ Shane Madison on Aug. 23 at Holy Cross in a match that reflects his start in the business. The loser will have to carry the other guy’s bags. “That’s what I used to do when I was breaking into the business.”

1. Favourite workout?

My favourite workout is that of a new one. I change my routine every six to eight weeks and look to take on a new challenge, goal, and training theory with that new routine to always keep the body guessing and push it to new limits. My favourite cardio training is that of interval training on days I am not lifting and a high incline walk on days I do lift.

2. Favourite workout song?

I LOVE my ’90s music and “prime country” music so that is the preferred listening choice while in the gym. At one of the smaller studio gyms I train at, if I am the first one to get my hands on the stereo, it isn’t uncommon that the gym is being blasted with Backstreet Boys or Garth Brooks much to the dismay of those getting there after me!

3. Fitness tip?

The biggest detriment to people’s progress in building their envisioned physique, losing weight or gaining muscle usually isn’t the work they are putting in the gym but what they are putting in their body. There is so much confusion on what is “good for you.” When in doubt, ask yourself if what you are eating is a natural food source that is designed for the human body in its natural habit or is it designed to have shelf-life in a grocery store.

4. What’s in your fridge?

My newest daily healthy routine is filling up the blender with ice, a tad of almond butter, a banana, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, chocolate whey protein, some water and blending it.all together. Delicious!

5. What’s your guilty pleasure?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! I can and will eat them until my tummy hurts if given the option. Strangely, it was my mother’s pregnancy guilty pleasure while pregnant with me and I suppose it is something I came dependent on too as it is something I still carry with me 26 years later!
