The Saskatoon Accelerators roared back with a vengeance yesterday, beating Winnipeg Alliance 9- 5 to gain a split in their weekend Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League games at the Seven Oaks Soccer Complex.

Making the most of the fact that Alliance striker Christopher Musto, who had four goals in Winnipeg’s 9-6 win on Saturday, was sitting out the game after being red-carded in the first match, Saskatoon dominated the entire game.

"Musto would have made a big difference out there today," said Alliance coach Wade Gibson. "He was our target man. The boys tried to pick it up, but we didn’t recover. We have to play four good quarters."

"We came out a little sore from yesterday," said Alliance two-goal scorer Matthew McLaren. "We were a little flat, but we got into it in the second quarter. We know we can do it; we just have to play with more intensity."

"Matthew is always there," said Gibson. "He just keeps plugging away, but we need all the boys going on the same cylinder and not just one. We need to work as a unit."

The Alliance get another two shots at the Accelerators on Feb. 13, when they invade Saskatoon for a pair of games, and they’ll be back home Feb. 20-21 to take on the Prince George Fury.

Gibson said that gives them a little breathing space to work on improving their product.

"We need to work on our transition, both offence and defence," he said. "But you know what? It’s coming around, but the thing we need to constantly remember is that ball is going to move quick. This is an indoor game and it is a much faster pace."

Also scoring for Winnipeg Sunday were Tom Findlay, Adam Hajkowski and Tom Foderaro. The loss left Winnipeg at 1-3. They dropped a pair of interlocking games last weekend in Detroit and Canton, Ohio, against teams from the U.S.-based Professional Arena Soccer League.

Scoring two goals each for Saskatoon, who headed home with a 2-2 record, were Jerson Hamilton, Ryan McAllister and Mark Korthius. Single goals were scored by Paul Craig, Eoin McFadden and Jay Tomchuk.

In Saturday’s victory, Winnipeg got two goals each from McLaren and Ken Sacramento, and one from Foderaro.
