CHICAGO – American defender DeAndre Yedlin may miss the CONCACAF Gold Cup following surgery to repair a chronic groin injury.
The U.S. Soccer Federation says the 25-year-old right back had surgery on his left groin Tuesday in Philadelphia and it is not clear whether he will heal in time for the Gold Cup. The U.S. opens its title defence against Guyana on June 18.
Yedlin made 28 starts and one substitute appearance for Newcastle in the Premier League this season. He missed Saturday’s game against Liverpool.
