MADRID – Real Madrid says Brazil left back Marcelo has injured a muscle in his left leg, leaving in doubt his availability for the remainder of the season.
The club made the announcement on Friday, ahead of its match against Alavés. It did not say how long it expects Marcelo to be sidelined.
Madrid is leading the Spanish league as it approaches its finale on July 19. Madrid will then face a Champions League round-of-16 second-leg at Manchester City on Aug. 7 when it must overturn a 2-1 home loss.
French defender Ferland Mendy has shared playing time with Marcelo this season.
