Man United condemns ‘mindless idiots’ for racial abuse

MANCHESTER, England - Manchester United players Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial have been targeted by racial abuse online following their 2-1 home loss to last-place Sheffield United in the English Premier League. The club says it is “disgusted” by the abuse perpetrated by “anonymous mindless idiots.” Sheffield United’s winning goal on Wednesday at Old Trafford struck the outstretched leg of Tuanzebe and went in off the underside of the crossbar. Abuse targeting he and Martial, who are both Black, included racist terms and emojis on their most recent Instagram posts. The team urged social media platforms and regulatory authorities “to strengthen measures to prevent this kind of behaviour.”
