TORONTO – Jonathan David and Christine Sinclair have been named Canada Soccer’s players of the month for May.

David became the first Canadian to win the Ligue 1 championship in France, scoring the opening goal in the win that clinched the title on the final day of the season. Sinclair, the world’s all-time leading international goal-scorer, led the Portland Thorns to the NWSL Challenge Cup title while adding to her scoring exploits.

David, a 21-year-old forward from Ottawa, upped his season goals total to 13 — a record for a Canadian in a top-five men’s European league (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain). Tomasz Radzinski had held the previous record at 12.
