VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps have added Gordon (Fiddle) Thornsberry to their esports gaming roster.
The 24-year-old from Trenton, Ohio, a former eMLS League Series champion, joins Alex (Exraa) Gonzalez on the Whitecaps esports team.
Representing FC Cincinnati, Thornsberry won both the League Series One and League Series Two titles last year to finish top of the regular-season standings. He also went on to win the EA Sports FIFA 20 Summer Cup Series for North America. becoming the third eMLS player to win an international title.
He represented the U.S. at the FIFAe Nations Cup Qualifiers alongside D.C. United’s Mohamed (KingCJ0) Alioune Diop, finishing runners-up in the tournament to qualify for the FIFAe Nations Cup in Denmark, which was subsequently cancelled due to the pandemic.
Prior to entering eMLS, Fiddle represented France’s Paris Saint-Germain.
The Whitecaps fired gamer Agit (AgitPower) Katilmis in July for telling an online opponent to kill himself. Katilmis took to social media to apologize “to the whole FIFA community and most important to everyone who is struggling with mental health.”
Katilmis subsequently apologized to his opponent and made a $2,500 donation to the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention.
