Canada’s sports world — and beyond — was loud and proud online after Canada’s 2-1 win over Mexico in Edmonton on Tuesday night.

Christine Sinclair, the all-time leading scorer in international soccer and captian of Canada’s women’s national team, was just one to celebrate the achievement of her male colleagues. The historic upset over Mexico put Canada atop the CONCACAF qualifying table for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“Things you love to see…score a goal (or 2) against Mexico…celebrate by jumping into a snow bank,” tweeted Sinclair, making a reference to Sam Adekugbe jumping into a snowbank at Commonwealth Stadium after Cyle Larin’s second goal of the night gave Canada a 2-0 lead.

Janine Beckie, who won Olympic gold with Sinclair at the Tokyo Games in August, also tweeted her support of the men’s team.

“Top of the table! Let’s goooo #CANMNT! Keep going @CanadaSoccerEN,” said Beckie, adding emojis of a flexed bicep, a flame, and Canada’s flag.

After the match players from Canada’s team started celebrating on social media.

“Still not a soccer country?” tweeted Alistair Johnston, a defender in Canada’s starting 11 against Mexico, adding a freezing cold emoji, referencing the frigid conditions the match was played in.

Kamal Miller, another one of Canada’s defenders in the match, was less restrained than Johnston after the win on Twitter.

“CANADAAA!! LETS GOOO!! A night to remember forever (Praying emoji) WE JUST GETTING STARTED LFG (devil emoji) CYLE LARIN IS A DEMONNNN” said Miller.

“Top of the group, indeed. Congratulations on last night’s big win!” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, quote tweeting a video from Canada Soccer of the team celebrating Larin’s goal.

Toronto Raptors star forward Pascal Siakam quote tweeted a video of Larin’s second goal, adding three fire emojis to show his approval of the score.
