Hey there, time traveller!

Toronto FC added more depth to its defence Wednesday, and there were reports suggesting the Reds are not done with the back line.
TFC signed Kadin Chung through 2023, with options for 2024 and 2025. The 23-year-old, who played the last three seasons with Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League, has been with the Reds on a trial basis during the pre-season. His play earned him a spot on the roster, head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley said in a release.
“He’s coming off a very good season in the CPL with Pacific FC and we think Kadin is going to continue to improve and give us some depth at the right back position,” Bradley said.
Chung, a native of Port Coquitlam, B.C., made 63 appearances for Pacific, which captured its first CPL championship in 2021. He is the second Pacific defender to join TFC this off-season. Centre back Lukas MacNaughton signed with the Reds on a deal with the same options in January.
They are just two of the defensive additions Toronto has made since finishing second last and conceding 66 goals in Major League Soccer last year. TFC also brought in experienced centre backs in designated player Carlos Salcedo and Shane O’Neill after saying goodbye to the likes of Justin Morrow, Eriq Zavaleta, Omar Gonzalez, Richie Laryea and Auro Jr.
There could be more to come. Italian soccer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported Wednesday that TFC is in the final stages of completing a two-year deal with Domenico Criscito, a left back who captains Genoa in Italy’s Serie A.
Criscito, 35, could be an asset to the Reds on the flanks, though his age may prompt questions about his durability throughout a strenuous MLS season. He could also be an asset off the field. Criscito is a close friend of fellow Italian Lorenzo Insigne, who the Reds signed to a club-record designated player deal last month. Having a fellow countryman and friend along for the ride could ease Insigne’s transition to MLS and North America when he arrives in July. If Criscito’s presence helps Insigne settle in to life in MLS quickly, what he brings to the back line on the field may not matter so much.
The Reds open their season Saturday at FC Dallas.
