A look at what’s happening in European soccer on Friday:
SPAIN
Sevilla will try to rebound from an opening loss to Osasuna in the Spanish league when it hosts Valladolid. Julen Lopetegui’s team was dealt a blow when Jesús “Tecatito” Corona sustained a serious injury on Thursday. The Mexican forward is expected to miss the World Cup after breaking his left fibula and rupturing his ankle ligaments while training. Espanyol, which came from two goals down and scored an equalizer eight minutes into stoppage time in a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo, will host a Rayo Vallecano team that opened with a valuable 0-0 draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
FRANCE
Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar is set to miss the team’s home game against newly promoted Troyes after being left out of the squad amid ongoing speculation about a move to the Premier League. Lyon has only played one league game so far as its away match against Lorient in the second round was postponed because of the state of the pitch. It won its opener against Ajaccio 2-1, while Troyes lost both its games so far.
GERMANY
Borussia Mönchengladbach hopes to extend its six-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga when its hosts Hertha Berlin for the opening game of the third round. Gladbach conceded late to draw with Schalke 2-2 last weekend, while Hertha was held at home 1-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt despite an encouraging performance. Hertha is still looking for its first win under new coach Sandro Schwarz. Gladbach captain Lars Stindl could return from injury.
