ANGERS, France (AP) — Former Angers president Said Chabane has been taken into custody to be questioned as part of an investigation into money laundering, according to French media reports Tuesday.

LCI broadcaster said the case handled by the Bobigny prosecutor’s office in the Paris region focuses on suspicious financial transactions and the role of player agents in transfers made by the struggling French soccer club.

The Bobigny prosecutor’s office did not immediately answer a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Chabane, who is facing sexual assault accusations in a separate case, resigned from Angers last month. His son, Romain Chabane, replaced him.

Angers’ headquarters were raided by police in January as part of a large-scale investigation involving several clubs. The club said at the time that its former legal director and a player’s agent employed by the club were targeted by the preliminary investigation.

The Bobigny prosecutor’s office said the searches were carried out as part of an investigation into possible money laundering in an organized group, and the illegal practice of the profession of an agent.

Angers is in last place in the French league standings with only 11 points from 29 matches this season.
