VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps have added another attacker to their roster, picking up forward Brian White from the New York Red Bulls.

White, a 25-year-old from Flemington, N.J., has proven to be an offensive force for the Red Bulls with 16 goals in 50 MLS appearances.

He led New York with six goals and one assist last season, and was named the club’s offensive player of the year. This year White has one assist in five games.

The deal cost the ‘Caps (2-4-1) US$400,000 in general allocation money and includes conditions that could see Vancouver send the Red Bulls up to an additional $100,000.

White previously played for Duke University and was selected by the Red Bulls 16th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said in a release that White is a player with good finishing qualities who gives the team another attacking option.

Vancouver needs to have options at different positions this year because of all of the international competitions taking place, said coach Marc Dos Santos.

“Brian will be an important option for the team,” he said. “He’s comfortable playing alone or with another forward. It is a good opportunity for us and for him, and we look forward to having him at the club.”
