The province is spending $2 million to expand the communications centre used to report emergencies to the RCMP.
The funding will be used to add six new RCMP sergeants and 10 public servant dispatchers to expand the operational communications centre, Justice Minister Matt Wiebe announced Wednesday.
“Providing law enforcement with the tools they need to keep Manitobans safe and to get tough on crime is a priority for our government,” he said. “This investment of $2 million will help ensure our officers have the resources they need to respond to emergencies in the moments when it matters most to Manitobans.”
On Tuesday, Wiebe announced $3.3 million in annual funding to double the number of specialized Mounties on the force’s tactical team. It’s unknown when the reinforcements will be in place.
