Annual battle against mosquitoes begins

The city launched its annual mosquito larviciding program this week.
Crews, using ground equipment and four helicopters, target larvae before they emerge as adult mosquitoes.
About 70,000 acres of water area will be monitored and sprayed on an ongoing basis based on weather conditions, the City of Winnipeg said in a news release Wednesday.
Residents are encouraged to help prevent mosquitoes from multiplying on private property by getting rid of standing water from containers or pools that aren’t in use.
