Arrest in Canada Day killing

A suspect has been charged with the city’s latest homicide after a man was found critically injured early on Canada Day.

Police were sent to the 600 block of King Edward Street in the St. James Industrial area at about 12:14 a.m. and arrested a man in the vicinity.

The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. Police identified him as Eugene Rob Ryan Little, 43, of Winnipeg.

Dion Tyson Jamie Wood, 23, of Winnipeg, is charged with manslaughter.

Police said the two men, who were known to one another, were involved in a dispute that escalated to a fatal assault. The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information regarding the slaying, including video, to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
