Arrest made in Skownan First Nation slaying

RCMP major crimes investigators have arrested a man accused in a slaying on Skownan First Nation last Saturday.

Winnipegosis RCMP were called to a reported assault on the First Nation at about 10:25 a.m., where they found a dead 68-year-old man, whose name hasn’t been released.

On Tuesday, Mounties arrested Melvin Catcheway, 46. He was charged with manslaughter and appeared in court in Swan River Wednesday.

Major crimes officers are still investigating the case in the Indigenous community located about 288 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
