Assault victim flown to city by helicopter

A man has been charged after a woman was assaulted so badly she had to be transferred to a Winnipeg hospital by helicopter.
Dauphin RCMP were sent to the scene of the attack on 1st Avenue Northwest at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday and found the 37-year-old victim outside a home. She was taken to hospital before being transferred.
Officers got a suspect description from bystanders, patrolled the area and arrested a man shortly after.
RCMP said in a news release Thursday that the 36-year-old Brandon man assaulted a police officer while in custody.
He faces charges of aggravated assault; assault causing bodily harm; assault while choking, suffocating or strangling; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; assault on a police officer with a weapon; assault on a police officer and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
