Residents displaced in Academy Road house fire

Residents of a two-storey duplex on Academy Road were displaced after a fire broke out Friday morning.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said crews were called to the building on Academy, between Harrow and Stafford streets, at about 10:25 a.m. They found smoke coming from the duplex, but managed to get the fire under control by about 11 a.m.

Firefighters found the occupants had fled the fire before first responders arrived. None were hurt, but city social services had to help them find a place to stay temporarily.

Stretches of Academy Road, Harrow and Stafford streets were closed as fire crews battled the fire. The fire department has not yet determined the cause.
