Blood donations down because of weather

Canadian Blood Services says winter weather across the country, including in Winnipeg, has led to many cancelled donation appointments nationwide.

“In many parts of the country, heavy snowfall, ice storms and extreme cold have resulted in hundreds of cancelled donation appointments,” the organization said in a news release Thursday.

“These cancellations can make it challenging to keep the supply of blood products at optimal levels.”

There are open appointments to donate in Winnipeg at 777 William Ave.

Donors can book appointments at blood.ca, through the GiveBlood app or at 1-888-236-6283 (1-888-2DONATE).
