The Winnipeg Blue Bombers opened the 2025 CFL regular season in convincing fashion, earning a 34-20 win over the B.C. Lions in front of a sold-out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium Thursday night.

Quarterback Chris Streveler, who got the start with Zach Collaros sidelined for a one-game suspension, finished the night with an impressive 15-for-24 passing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Streveler connected with Nic Demski for a pair of majors, including one on the opening drive of the game, and found Keric Wheatfall with a 30-yard strike in the third quarter.

Running back Matthew Peterson recorded Winnipeg’s other TD, scampering 38 yards that included a few dodged tackles, in what was his first CFL game. Peterson took over for Brady Oliveira after the star tailback suffered an upper-body injury on the first series of the game. Peterson finished the night with 23 carries for 130 yards.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 1-0, while the Lions drop to 1-1 after defeating the Edmonton Elks in Week 1.
