A man is charged with impersonating a police officer while breaking into a home in the Rural Municipality of West St. Paul early Friday.

RCMP were sent to a home on Nye Avenue at about 2:45 a.m. and found a woman and two children in a vehicle on the driveway. She said she had confronted a stranger in the home and that he identified himself as a police officer.

The man was wearing a black and grey fleece-type jacket with RCMP embroidery and a black baseball cap that said “POLICE” on it, and was carrying two duffel bags.

The man fled without stealing anything, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release.

Mounties used a canine team and a drone in searching for the man. Police arrested someone near a trail.

A 32-year-old Winnipeg man is charged with break-and-enter and impersonating a peace officer. He was remanded into custody.

Neither the jacket nor the hat were issued by any police service, RCMP said. They released a photo of the items.
