Cameron adds Rocque for nationals

Kate Cameron has picked up Kelsey Rocque for the Canadian women’s curling nationals in Calgary.

Cameron, who hails from New Bothwell and curls out of the Granite Club, was added to the event by Curling Canada as Canadian Team Ranking System qualifier after finishing Manitoba provincials in Morden in third place.

Cameron, third Meghan Walter, and lead Mackenzie Elias were on the hunt for some help as second Taylor McDonald is seven and a half months pregnant and won’t be able to compete in Calgary. Rocque, who plays third for Assiniboine’s Beth Peterson, got the call to fill in. Rocque, a former skip out of Alberta who used to play with McDonald, is fresh off of a 9-8 loss to Kaitlyn Lawes in the provincial final.
The 29-year-old is a two-time world junior curling champion skip who now resides in Carberry,

McDonald will make the trip as an alternate/coach.

Cameron, 32, is one of four teams from the province who will hit the ice at nationals (Feb. 16-26 at the WinSport Arena).

The three Keystone Province representatives will be called Manitoba-Lawes, Manitoba-Jones, and Manitoba-Cameron.

Gimli’s Kerri Einarson will also be there as the reigning, defending four-time national champion and will once again wear Team Canada’s red and white.
