Capobianco named AHL’s Most Outstanding Defenceman

Kyle Capobianco received some hardware for having a career year.

The Manitoba Moose defenceman was named the winner of the 2023-24 Eddie Shore Award, awarded to the American Hockey League’s most outstanding defenceman.

The award is voted on by coaches, players and members of the media in each of the league’s 32 cities.

In his first season with the Winnipeg Jets’ AHL affiliate, the Mississauga, Ont. product led all blue liners with 42 assists and 54 points and ranked tied for third with a plus-29 rating in 69 games.

The seventh-year pro made his fourth career AHL All-Star Classic appearance and was voted a First Team AHL All-Star for the first time this season.

Capobianco and the Moose begin the Calder Cup playoffs this evening against the Texas Stars at H-E-B Centre in Cedar Park, Tex.
