Police are searching for a suspect who tried to carjack a parked vehicle that proceeded to smash into the side of the CBC building.
Officers were sent to the building at 541 Portage Ave. after the car smashed into the Young Street side at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Winnipeg Police Service said the owner of the car had entered a nearby business while his wife and 18-year-old child waited in the vehicle. An unknown male entered the car and tried to steal it, leading to the crash, police said.
The woman was “assaulted on the ground” before the suspect ran off, police said.
An ambulance was called, but the woman was not seriously injured.
The WPS major crimes unit is asking anyone with information regarding the incident, including video, to call them at 204-986-6219 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
