Chemawawin Cree Nation assault suspect arrested: RCMP

RCMP arrested an assault suspect who was the subject of a manhunt on Monday in Chemawawin Cree Nation.

Darren Lachose, 33, was found at a home in the community at about 6:30 p.m. Monday. He’s to be charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement and aggravated sexual assault, among other offences.

RCMP allege Lachose violently assaulted a woman over several hours at a home on the Chemawawin Cree Nation over the weekend.

The incident was reported to RCMP on Sunday at about 9:45 a.m. The woman reported she was held the previous night and punched, kicked and struck with various weapons.

However, she was able to escape and called Mounties. She was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
