A child is dead after falling from a high-rise in downtown Winnipeg.

City police were called to the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports that a child had fallen from a window on the 19th floor of a building, Winnipeg Police Service Const. Claude Chancy said Tuesday.

The child, who was under the age of 10, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, Chancy said.

The WPS child abuse unit determined the incident was accidental and no arrests have been made. Police do not expect to release additional information about the incident, he said.
